Great Show/Poor Handling of Late Start

We thoroughly enjoyed the Steve Martin & Martin Short performance. The preparation and timing by the two comedy pros was unbelievable! We haven't laughed that hard in years. The show was well put together, pacing was impeccable and incredibly entertaining from beginning to end. Steve and Martin are the top notch performers we have enjoyed for years. The Springfield Symphony Hall was a good venue for this show and there was no trouble with the sound. I wish we could say the same for the management. The show started 25 minutes late, with no explanation for the delay. At 8:15pm there was an announcement stating lighting difficulties. I don't think the SSH has any right to delay the start of the show when supporting patrons have paid handsomely for tickets. To add to the frustration, there were many late arrivals all the way up to the start of the show. I can't imagine the interruption that would have been caused had the show actually started at 8pm. What is the protocol for ushering of people who are late and rude enough to enter at their whim? We would like to suggest that late arrivals are detained in a holding pen that has standing room only. We also experienced multiple audience members, well aware of the rules of the venue that no recording or photography of the performance was allowed. The ushers were not savvy enough to stay on top of this violation, and this detracted from the performance for me, personally. I'm sad to see how rude our society has become at live performances with no consideration for those around them. Interestingly enough, the cell phone offenders were predominantly the late shows that were allowed in after the start time. Despite our complaints about fellow audience members, we would be thrilled to see these performers again sometime in the future. Thank you for a most entertaining evening.
